Mini-Curso: The one dimensional case: curves

Abstract: As usual, some explicit calculations are possible for the one-dimensional case. Such calculations will provide particular examples that can be used to answer interesting and intriguing general questions. Some familiarity with optimality conditions for minimizers in the form of Euler-Lagrange equations or systems will be helpful, though this material will be reviewed briefly.
