Resumo: Nonlinear latent relationships exist in many empirical settings. However, due to mathematical complexities, researchers impose parametric functional forms onto the relationships. We demonstrate two different estimation approaches, parametric and semiparametric, on an organizational behavior dataset. Within the organizational context, we expect nonlinear latent relationships. The results show that, when compared with imposing a quadratic functional form, the semiparametric approach has greater flexibility in estimating the true functional form of the nonlinear latent relationships.
